Allegations of Misconduct

Al-Adalah: Jurnal Hukum dan Politik Islam is committed to maintaining high standards of research integrity and publication ethics. Research misconduct includes, but is not limited to, fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, citation manipulation, duplicate publication, and other unethical practices in the conduct, review, reporting, or publication of scholarly research.

In the fields of law and Islamic politics, research misconduct may also include the deliberate misrepresentation, distortion, or fabrication of legal sources, statutory provisions, judicial decisions, constitutional principles, legal doctrines, Islamic legal texts, scholarly interpretations, or other authoritative references used to support academic arguments and conclusions.

Assessment of Allegations

When an allegation of research misconduct is received, the Editor-in-Chief and editorial team will assess the allegation and determine whether further examination is warranted. Allegations will be handled fairly, objectively, confidentially, and in accordance with applicable publication ethics principles and relevant guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), where appropriate.

The journal may request a written explanation from the author(s) concerned and may consult reviewers, independent experts, or other relevant parties when necessary. Authors will be given a reasonable opportunity to respond to the allegations. The journal will assess the available evidence before deciding on any appropriate action and will avoid treating an allegation as established misconduct before the assessment has been completed.

Actions in Cases of Substantiated Misconduct

If a manuscript under review is found to involve substantiated research misconduct, the journal may reject the submission. If misconduct is identified after publication, the journal may take appropriate action, including issuing a correction, publishing an expression of concern, or retracting the article, depending on the nature and severity of the case.

Where warranted, the journal may also contact the author's affiliated institution or other relevant authorities for further investigation.

Principles for Decision-Making

All decisions will be guided by the seriousness of the alleged misconduct, the evidence available, the author's response, and the need to preserve the integrity and reliability of the scholarly record. The journal seeks to uphold academic honesty, accountability, transparency, and responsible scholarship in the fields of law and Islamic politics.

Confidentiality and Fair Process: An allegation of misconduct does not, by itself, establish that misconduct has occurred. The journal will assess allegations based on available evidence and provide the author(s) concerned with a reasonable opportunity to respond before taking substantive action, except where immediate action is necessary to protect the integrity of the scholarly record.
