Polygamy remains a controversial issue that continues to provoke debate in society. Some view it as permissible under Islamic law, while others reject it because it contradicts the principle of justice. This study builds upon previous research, with its novelty lying in a reinterpretative approach to Q.S. an-Nisā’ [4]: 3 through a comprehensive and moderate lens, rather than relying solely on narrow textual interpretations. Using the library research method, this study re-examines the essential meaning of the verse, which is often understood only partially. The findings indicate that Islam permits polygamy as an alternative solution in specific circumstances, but fundamentally emphasises monogamy and justice as core principles of marriage. Polygamy is only valid if justice for all parties involved can be genuinely upheld. Therefore, the provisions within the Compilation of Islamic Law (KHI) that allow polygamy under strict conditions represent a contextual form of legal moderation. The study recommends a multidisciplinary approach to understanding Islamic law, as well as the need for collective awareness to adhere to national regulations, thereby preserving social harmony and ensuring a just family law system.
