Al-Adalah: Jurnal Hukum dan Politik Islam

Al-Adalah: Jurnal Hukum dan Politik Islam is a peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to scholarly research on law, legal politics, Islamic law, Islamic politics, and socio-legal developments, with particular attention to Indonesia and their significance for wider regional and international legal scholarship.

Published by IAIN Bone, Indonesia, Al-Adalah: Jurnal Hukum dan Politik Islam provides a scholarly forum for rigorous research and critical analysis of contemporary legal and political developments. The journal particularly welcomes studies that examine Indonesian legal developments in relation to broader theoretical, comparative, regional, and international debates.

The journal aims to contribute to the development of legal scholarship by connecting Indonesian legal and socio-political experiences with wider scholarly discussions. Research focusing on Indonesia is not required to include a foreign jurisdiction, provided that the study identifies a clear scholarly contribution and demonstrates relevance to broader debates in law, legal politics, Islamic law, Islamic politics, governance, justice, or related fields.

Focus and Scope

Al-Adalah: Jurnal Hukum dan Politik Islam focuses on contemporary scholarship in law, legal politics, Islamic law, Islamic politics, and socio-legal studies.

The journal welcomes rigorous doctrinal/normative, socio-legal, empirical, comparative, and interdisciplinary research, provided that the methodological approach is appropriate to the research problem and is applied with sufficient scholarly rigor.

The journal's principal areas of interest include:

1. Constitutional and Public Law

Research concerning constitutional law, administrative law, public institutions, constitutional governance, state authority, public policy, and the relationship between law and government.

2. Legal Politics and Legal Reform

Studies of legal policy, law-making, legal development, regulatory reform, institutional transformation, and the political, social, and historical factors influencing legal change.

3. Islamic Law and Islamic Politics

Research on Islamic legal thought, Islamic jurisprudence, Islamic legal institutions, Islamic political thought, Muslim societies, and the interaction between Islamic norms, state law, politics, and contemporary governance.

4. Socio-Legal and Empirical Legal Studies

Research examining law in society, legal institutions and practices, access to justice, legal consciousness, law enforcement, community experiences, and empirical dimensions of legal development.

5. Human Rights, Justice, and Governance

Research addressing human rights, equality, social and ecological justice, democratic governance, accountability, participation, legal protection, and the relationship between law and public interests.

6. Comparative and Transnational Legal Studies

Comparative research and studies of regional or transnational legal developments, particularly where comparison contributes to the understanding of Indonesian law or generates broader theoretical, doctrinal, or socio-legal insights.

The journal particularly encourages manuscripts that demonstrate how legal developments in Indonesia contribute to, challenge, or illuminate wider debates in contemporary legal scholarship.

Methodological pluralism does not mean methodological looseness. Manuscripts must demonstrate a clear research problem, appropriate methodological or analytical approach, reliable sources or evidence, coherent analysis, and a meaningful scholarly contribution.

International and Indonesian Context

Al-Adalah: Jurnal Hukum dan Politik Islam recognizes Indonesia as an important context for legal and socio-political scholarship. The journal therefore welcomes research that examines Indonesian legal developments while engaging with relevant regional and international scholarship.

International relevance may be demonstrated through, among other things:

  • engagement with international or comparative scholarship;
  • theoretical or conceptual contributions extending beyond the immediate case studied;
  • analysis of legal developments with regional or transnational significance;
  • comparison with other legal systems where substantively relevant; or
  • critical analysis of Indonesian developments that contributes to broader debates in law, governance, justice, Islamic law, or legal politics.

The absence of a foreign jurisdiction does not, by itself, make a manuscript unsuitable for the journal.

Manuscript Types

Al-Adalah: Jurnal Hukum dan Politik Islam publishes three principal manuscript types:

  1. Original Research Article – presents original research, findings, analysis, or scholarly arguments based on an appropriate doctrinal, socio-legal, empirical, comparative, or interdisciplinary approach.
  2. Conceptual Article – develops a substantial legal, constitutional, political, Islamic legal, theoretical, or interdisciplinary argument grounded in relevant scholarship and authoritative sources.
  3. Review Article – provides a rigorous and critical synthesis of established scholarship, legal developments, jurisprudence, or research literature and identifies significant research gaps, debates, or implications.

All manuscripts must comply with the journal's Focus and Scope, demonstrate a clearly defined scholarly purpose, engage relevant scholarship, and make a meaningful contribution to the field.

Peer Review

All manuscripts submitted to Al-Adalah: Jurnal Hukum dan Politik Islam undergo an initial editorial screening before external peer review.

The initial screening assesses, among other matters:

  • relevance to the journal's Focus and Scope;
  • appropriate manuscript type;
  • clarity of the research problem, research question, objective, or conceptual purpose;
  • originality and potential scholarly contribution;
  • methodological or analytical rigor;
  • adequacy and reliability of evidence and sources;
  • research integrity and ethical compliance;
  • scholarly presentation; and
  • technical compliance with the journal's requirements.

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial screening are normally evaluated through double-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers.

Reviewer assessments consider originality, scholarly contribution, research problem or argument, engagement with scholarship, methodological or analytical rigor, evidence and sources, quality of analysis, significance, organization, and presentation.

Final editorial decisions are made by the editors based on the reviewers' assessments and the journal's scholarly standards.

Publication Ethics and Research Integrity

Al-Adalah: Jurnal Hukum dan Politik Islam is committed to maintaining high standards of publication ethics and research integrity.

The journal expects authors, editors, reviewers, and other parties involved in the publication process to uphold principles of originality, honesty, transparency, accountability, confidentiality, responsible authorship, fair peer review, and editorial independence.

The journal does not tolerate plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate or redundant publication, authorship manipulation, citation manipulation, undisclosed conflicts of interest, peer-review manipulation, or other forms of research and publication misconduct.

Similarity-detection software may be used as part of the editorial assessment. A similarity score alone does not constitute a finding of plagiarism. Editors assess the nature, extent, attribution, context, and significance of textual overlap before determining the appropriate editorial response.

The journal also permits responsible use of generative artificial intelligence and AI-assisted tools where consistent with research integrity. AI tools cannot be listed as authors, and authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and accountability of their manuscripts.

Open Access Policy

Al-Adalah: Jurnal Hukum dan Politik Islam is an open-access journal. All published articles are made immediately and freely available to readers without subscription or access fees.

The journal supports the broad dissemination and use of scholarly research in accordance with its open-access and licensing policy.

Publication Frequency

Al-Adalah: Jurnal Hukum dan Politik Islam is published twice a year, in:

  • January
  • July

The journal may publish articles online as part of the relevant issue in accordance with its editorial and production schedule.

Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain the copyright of their published works in accordance with the journal's copyright policy.

Published articles are distributed under the journal's stated Creative Commons licensing terms, allowing scholarly access and reuse subject to the applicable license conditions and proper attribution.

Author and Reviewer Responsibilities

Authors are responsible for ensuring that submitted manuscripts are original, accurately reported, appropriately referenced, ethically conducted where applicable, and not simultaneously submitted to another journal.

Authors must disclose relevant conflicts of interest, funding or other forms of support where applicable, and any ethical approvals or informed-consent requirements relevant to their research.

Reviewers are expected to maintain confidentiality, provide objective and constructive assessments, disclose conflicts of interest, and avoid using unpublished information obtained through the review process for personal or professional advantage.

Editors are responsible for ensuring fair, transparent, and independent editorial decisions based on scholarly considerations rather than institutional affiliation, commercial interests, personal relationships, political pressure, or other inappropriate considerations.

Complaints, Corrections, and Post-Publication Issues

Al-Adalah: Jurnal Hukum dan Politik Islam provides mechanisms for addressing editorial complaints, appeals, corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions where necessary.

Post-publication concerns are assessed in accordance with the journal's publication ethics and research integrity framework. Where a published article contains a significant error or raises a credible integrity concern, the journal may issue an appropriate correction, expression of concern, or retraction.

Privacy

Personal information submitted to Al-Adalah: Jurnal Hukum dan Politik Islam through the journal's online publishing system is used for legitimate editorial, peer-review, publication, scholarly communication, and journal-management purposes.

The journal is committed to protecting the confidentiality of personal information and handling such information responsibly in accordance with applicable policies.

Article Processing Charge

Al-Adalah: Jurnal Hukum dan Politik Islam does not charge authors a submission fee.

An Article Processing Charge (APC) of IDR 850,000 applies to manuscripts that have been accepted for publication, subject to the journal's applicable APC policy.

Eligible active students of IAIN Bone may apply for a waiver in accordance with the journal's waiver provisions. APC waiver decisions do not influence editorial or peer-review decisions.
