The COVID-19 pandemic has generated significant challenges for the banking sector and stimulated growing scholarly attention to Islamic banking and its resilience during periods of crisis. This study aims to examine the development, publication trends, and emerging research themes of Islamic banking literature during the COVID-19 pandemic. A quantitative bibliometric approach was employed using 200 documents retrieved from the Scopus database covering the period from 2020 to 2023. The bibliometric data were analyzed using Publish or Perish and VOSviewer to identify publication trends, leading journals, prolific authors, citation patterns, and relationships among research keywords. The findings show that Islamic banking research remained active throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, with 200 relevant documents identified during the study period. The Journal of Islamic Marketing was the most productive source, while several Islamic banking and finance journals also made substantial contributions to the literature. The citation analysis identified the most influential publications and authors, while keyword network analysis revealed multiple research clusters related to Islamic banking, customer behavior, sustainability, efficiency, digitalization, and other emerging themes. Overall, the findings demonstrate that COVID-19 expanded the research landscape of Islamic banking and encouraged scholars to explore the sector from broader financial, technological, social, and strategic perspectives. The study provides a systematic overview of the evolution of Islamic banking research during the pandemic and identifies potential directions for future research.
